Pretty Little Glass Cabinet

Winter is in full swing already!  We went from 80 on one day to 27 the next, that didn't give my body enough of a stair step down to adjust!  Burrrrr!  Okay enough whining.  Before the cold snap hit I was able to get this little cabinet finished and listed on CL.

What started it all

I thought that I would take a minute and revisit what got this whole blog thing started. This is what I made for my granddaughters last Christmas. It was so much fun to do and it is what motivated me to continue my DIY passion. This year I am working on restoring a doll house that my daughters grandfather (on her daddy's side) made her when she was 7 or 8. It is a work in progress and I am not ready to show it yet. I just wanted to repost this to perhaps give you some idea's for a "Christmas project" for your kids or grandkids. I hope it inspires you. :)

$3.00 Mud Room Bench

Well it all started with this..IMG_0721

This was something that I just threw together one day to hold extra shoes... you know what I'm talking about right? Well it wasn't meant to be seen or pretty but functional.  It was for a while but then I decided that I needed some sort of bench for the mud room,  to use while putting on work boots and to also function as a place to put those boots.

Winter Cat House

Last year a stray cat adopted us.  When she showed up on our doorstep she was probably a week or two away from starving to death.  She had a huge swollen upper lip that was apparently making it very difficult to eat.  I don't know if someone abandoned her or if she willingly left from where she previously had lived.  Anyway, I am not someone who can just ignore an animal in need.   I knew I had to do something.  I started feeding her canned food and giving her colloidal silver at each feeding.  The silver worked and so did feeding her.  She is now fat and happy.  My dilemma was....beside the fact that hubby kept saying "NO.....we can't keep her", my youngest son has asthma and is very much allergic to cats!  I kept feeding her outside and when winter came around I would crack the garage door (yes i'm that lady) and let her get into the garage to sleep and eat.  This drove my husband crazy.... understandably.  Our house faces North, so the cold wind would blow into the garage and caused the laundry/mud room to be colder and harder to heat.  .

This year I knew that I had to do something different.  (Not give up the cat) We can't let her in the house for obvious reasons so I decided to build her a cat house that could be put on our back porch.  It will be warmer there since it faces the south.  My mom had given me a heating mat that she used to use for the Ferrel cats that were at her old house.Cat house 024

OK.. just so ya know

Hey there, just to let you know, I am going through the blog and making sure that the pictures all transferred when the domain changed and for some reason when I refresh it is looking like I just posted and it is showing up in the current feed.  So, for some of you, this might be new information, but for most of you it will simply be a re posting of the same info you have seen.  I apologize for this duplication.  I was noticing that some of the pictures didn't transfer correctly when I purchased the new domain.  Please bear with me as I try to get everything current

Mom's Birthday Present

Hello all,

I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend.  Last weekend I completed a project that has been several years in the making.  See, when my mom moved into her house, I said then that the kitchen needed an island.  Well after trying to figure out what to get her for her BD, I decided to just make her one.  It was like most of my projects...... a coming together of bits and pieces.  I was inspired by Becky @ Beyond The Picket Fence .  You should definitely check out her Blog .... It is a whole bunch of awesomeness!!! Anyway, I put my own spin on it and I think it turned out pretty cute.  Mom loves it and it is super functional in her kitchen.  Ignore the kitty photo bombs.... lol

Happy Birthday mom, I love you

On to the before and afters....IMG_0755
