Getting what I want..... The upcycled way!

I want a lot of stuff!  Don't get me wrong, I don't place my happiness on "things" but I feel that when you surround yourself with things that make you smile, it can do wonders for your mood.  That being said, I sometimes have to be pretty resourceful in order to acquire what I want without spending a ton of money.

I have been collecting cutting boards for a while now.  I find that they are very handy when it comes to serving a variety of foods as well as the fact that they can be incorporated in different decorating scenarios.  Even having a collection of them together can be decorative.

I had been on the lookout for a very large one.  One that could be useful as well as decorative.  Unfortunately, the really large ones are not cheep and are very hard to come by.  I had a style in mind.  I wanted mine to have feet (cause I love feet on utilitarian items) as well as handles.    I like these but with a price tag between $70.00 and $160.00 a piece, well that is just a little too pricey for my budget.

Recently, I cleaned out a family members home that had passed and this old microwave cart was found.
It was in really bad shape.  As you can see, it was pretty much falling apart.   I thought that I could at least save the top as a cutting board.  After I removed it from the cart, is when the inspiration struck.  I will make it into what I want!

I ended up getting these
from Hobby Lobby as well as some cast iron handles. I used my 40% off coupon to get the bag of what would be feet and the handles were gotten on their 50% off week.   I wanted a little chunkier feet but I felt that since this was not a thick board it would look kind of goofy so I decided on a daintier set.   I rubbed hemp oil on them to get them to look similar to the cutting board and attached the handles. For around $10.00 I got the look I wanted for a fraction of what I could have just bought one for.

I am loving how this turned out and I have a pretty cool story to go along with it.

I hope you have a great weekend,
Blessings to you,
