Curb find....finally done!

So it has been a little while since I posted last but I have been very busy.  I finally finished the huge cabinet that I found on the curb and it is officially for sale on Craigslist.  I purposely did this one in a more "shabby chic" way.  I have seen this type of technique for sale all over the place so I thought why not...

After debating turning this into a coffee table I changed my mind...as I often do and flipped it on its side.  I felt that it as a coffee table was going to be too tall so I changed directions and made it into a cabinet that would be awesome in a craft room or perhaps a kids play room or as an entertainment center.

I first had to clean this thing up and take it completely apart.  you see....who ever had this had apparently been using it for some sort of critter...there was critter food all through it as well as shredded paper and it some other stuff that I am not quite sure of what it was.  I didn't see any poo or liquid left over.... (PG...people) so I believe that it was used for storing the food supply for rabbits or some other kind of critter.  plenty of sanding and cleaning went into this baby.IMG_0976 IMG_0978 IMG_0979
I built the cubies out of some scrap wood that I had and built a bottom where the former opening was.  I then relocated the doors and trim to what is now the bottom.   The base color was painted with "dark storm cloud grey" latex enamel and then I used a jacobean stain over that.  I finished it off with a white enamel using a dry brush.  I found the knobs at Hobby Lobby...(my favorite place for knobs)

I think that over all it turned out pretty good.  I really wanted to keep this one but it has to go... :(   Now, I'm off to upcycle a hutch for a friend of mine.  I will post those pictures when I'm finished
